'we care about u'

i live in a rural area of small towns with a couple of very small cities within 50 km..  One of these little cities is opening a new hospital soon. i doubt the 'old' hospital needed replacing. it's probably similar to the way american professional sports owners often claim their 'old' stadium or venue has become outdated after perhaps only 30 years, and they need to build a new one (often at local taxpayers expense) to remain 'competitive' with 'other markets'. iow, it's all profit, not need driven. it's all about a society gone mad with it's own power and affluence, paying no heed to scientific warnings of over-reach and collapse and deadly climate change (extinction threatening climate change!), addicted to 'free enterprise' capitalism, viewing mother nature as it's bitch, and it's own power as unlimited. no need to heed the scare mongers and worry warts; we're in control! or so our rulers seem to think. our true rulers, the political power brokers and puppet masters.

of course our banking system is a grand ponzi scheme, dependent upon growth to pay back loans. perhaps it's big banksters calling the shots, for while governments everywhere are adapting more or less (in the usa it's very much less) to the threat of manmade climate change, going 'green' somewhat, none of them seem to be coming to grips with the stark fact that infinite growth in a finite world is impossible and that very soon we'll be reaping the consequences of this idiotic pursuit. as will our children and grandchildren and any other future generations blessed/cursed to live in the end times of industrial civilization. something i don't like to think about but can't help doing so...

anyway, my point is that whoever or whatever is running this freak show is insane, or just not concerned with our welfare or the welfare of other species on earth.

immense deficit spending such as the american federal government is currently engaged in, as it has periodically engaged in for decades, is designed to add fuel to the fire of  'growth'. some sheeple point out how running up huge debts burdens future generations economically. what they generally fail to point out is how it subsides business activity, activity which is rapidly depleting critical natural resources, resources which won't be available to future generations when they're most critically needed. and it's helping drive fossil fool consumption and climate change, so paying off past debts shall be the least of their worries.

anyhow, back to this new and almost certainly unnecessary new hospital in my area. it's engaged in a propagandistic advertising blitz announcing the grand opening of their new facility next month. the propaganda can be boiled down to the ad's catch phrase: at so and so hospital, 'we care about u'.

free enterprise american healthcare is a disgrace. the per capita costliest healthcare system in the world, with very poor results to show for it. that is, poor health results for americans, compared to most other wealthy nations with more socialized systems. otoh, i'm pretty sure it's very profitable for many owners and providers of american healthcare, as it's designed to be.

the rich are often called greedy, criticized for accumulating obscene amounts of 'wealth'. many sheeple question why this is, considering the limited satisfaction money can buy, and the many more precious things it can't, like health, esteem, love. but see, there's one thing obscene amounts of money can buy which is very important, and that is power, political power. if u can control politics, u de facto rule, and that's what the super wealthy do in america and no doubt elsewhere, more or less (in america, it's much more).

in a nutshell, the pursuit of great wealth is the pursuit of great power. and u know the old saying 'power corrupts'. rings true, imo. this is at the heart of our dystopia. i'm afraid only collapse will kill it, as it will kill many of us. i digress.

american corporations and big businesses like hospitals are in business for one primary purpose: profit. if they actually cared about the public they purportedly serve, they wouldn't do things like price gouge. pharmaceutical companies, another big branch of american healthcare, are notorious for the same practice. they too spend big bucks in propaganda ads and p.r. efforts to gain public favor or at least acceptance. and sadly, they succeed enough so that america remains saddled with this 'free enterprise' system which enriches the few at the expense of the many, many of whom are brainwashed to support what isn't in their own best interest. capitalism! the american establishment! economic growth! jobs and industry!

ridiculous and repugnant. sick n evil. dystopian and doomed.
